The red deer rut is one of the UK's most dramatic wildlife spectacles. Stags compete for hinds through roaring, display, and combat from late September, peaking in early to mid October. Richmond Park in London, the Scottish Highlands, Exmoor, and the New Forest are among the best locations. Fallow deer rut slightly later in October. Keep a safe distance of at least 50 metres from rutting stags — they can be unpredictable.
