The Geminids are one of the year's most prolific meteor showers, peaking on the night of 13-14 December. Up to 120 meteors per hour can be visible at peak. Unlike most showers, the Geminids originate from an asteroid, 3200 Phaethon, rather than a comet. The shower is active from 7-17 December. Winter conditions make viewing more challenging than August showers — dress warmly and allow your eyes 20 minutes to adjust to the dark.
