The Perseids are the most popular annual meteor shower in the UK, peaking around 12 August each year. At peak, up to 100 meteors per hour can be visible from a dark site. The shower runs from late July to late August as Earth passes through debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle. The best viewing is after midnight, away from light pollution. Dark sky parks in Galloway, Exmoor, and Northumberland offer excellent conditions. No equipment is needed — just a clear sky and dark surroundings.
