International Dark Sky Week is organised by DarkSky International to celebrate dark skies and reduce light pollution. It takes place in April, during the week of the new moon when skies are darkest. UK dark sky places include Galloway Forest Park, Exmoor, Bannau Brycheiniog, Eryri, Northumberland, and Cranborne Chase. It is a good week to try naked-eye stargazing, join a local astronomy event, or review outdoor lighting at home.

The new moon gives the darkest skies, making stars and faint objects easier to see.
